How many different styles of beer are there?

We get asked all the time in the store from our guests how many different types of beer are there? Our best answer…. Beer is like ice cream in the sense that there are so many flavors or flavor combinations it is tough to have a set number for them all, but we can start you off with the main segments of beer. Some vocabulary regarding these segments include: Ale, Lager, Porter, Stout, Wheat, Pilsner, Cider, Kolsch, as well as Brown Ale, Sour Ale, IPA, and Blonde Ale to name some of the most popular.

What is an IPA?

An IPA, also known as India Pale Ale, was originally a British pale ale brewed with extra hops. High levels of this bittering agent made the beer stable enough to survive the long boat trip to India without spoiling. The extra dose of hops gives IPA beers their bitter taste. Depending on the style of hops used, IPAs may have fruit-forward citrus flavors or taste of resin and pine. American Brewers have taken the IPA style and run with it, introducing flavors and ingredients to satisfy U.S. beer drinkers’ love for the brew style.

In which year was the beer can introduced?

Canned beer made its debut on January 24, 1935. In partnership with the American Can Company, the Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company delivered 2,000 cans of Krueger's Finest Beer and Krueger's Cream Ale to faithful Krueger drinkers in Richmond, Virginia.
